Title: Die For Me (Revenants #1)
Author: Amy Plum
Origins: Won from Julie on That’s Swell (Thanks!)
Summary: [from GoodReads] In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier’s parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life–and memories–behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate’s guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he’s a revenant–an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

My Review: This was my very first zombie novel! I have to say now I am firmly Team Unicorn. I have never liked the thought of a shambling, peeling, body-part dropping monster trying to bite me. (I’ll explain more in my upcoming review of Zombies vs. Unicorns). That said, I absolutely LOVED this book. There were no body parts falling off (well, except that once), no peeling skin and no screaming of “BRAAAAAINSS.” So really, not a zombie story at all =)

Firstly, I love the premise. I’m not going to spoil it for you, but the explanation of who Vincent and the rest of his crew are is so poignant and original. Vincent is my perfect knight in shining armor, so gentlemanly and yet so brooding. Just writing about it makes me want to go back and read about him all over again!

I also loved the way I was allowed to come up with my own theories. I have so many thoughts about what could happen in the next book and they could all be fantastic resolutions. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the next book, if only to just find out whether I’m right or not! I have to say, major congratulations to Amy on her debut!
