Title: Zombies Vs. Unicorns (Collection)
Editors: Justine Larbalestier and Holly Black
Origins: My Local Library
Summary: [from GoodReads] It’s a question as old as time itself: which is better, the zombie or the unicorn? In this anthology, edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier (unicorn and zombie, respectively), strong arguments are made for both sides in the form of short stories. Half of the stories portray the strengths—for good and evil—of unicorns and half show the good (and really, really bad-ass) side of zombies. Contributors include many bestselling teen authors, including Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Maureen Johnson, Meg Cabot, Scott Westerfeld, and Margo Lanagan. This anthology will have everyone asking: Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?

My Review: First, let me say I am firmly Team Unicorn, and will probably always be that way. I hate zombies and this book did nothing to change my mind. I thought it might, which is why I picked it up. After reading Die For Me, and seeing that many of my favorite authors are Team Zombie I thought I would definitely find some kind of Zombie I like. I didn’t.

All of that said, the stories in this collection were admittedly fantastic. Even the zombie ones gave me something important to think about while gagging and dashing to the toilet. And the unicorn stories were completely devoid of the “Pooping Rainbows” variety, as I think Holly Black puts it. (Unless it’s useful, of course. If proving a point, then pooping rainbows is fine by me.)

Reading through the review so far it sounds really negative. I don’t mean it that way! I loved the book! I just really hate zombies. If it was good enough that I plowed through ALL the stories in spite of zombies, then it must be freakin’ amazing!

Honestly though, I can see where both sides are coming from. I dislike the extremes of both sides – the shedding-body-parts-and-drooling zombies AND the Rainbows-and-tinkerbell-laughs unicorns. In fact, if I had to declare, SCREW ALL THIS! TEAM DRAGON FTW!

(To those who wrote for this collection: I love you ALL and the stories were very well written. If I can’t stand the subject matter, that can hardly be considered your fault because you are amazing! So are we good?)

lol, I haven't seen any reviews for this one yet despite seeing it in loads of IMMs a while back.

I will definitely be backing Team Unicorn, too – despite the fact that I have never read anything about unicorns…
