Have you ever finished a book and said “Man, I wish I could ________ like that?” Bookish Bucket List is a semi-regular feature for the things I’ve put on my bucket list and the books that made me do so.
Title: Blackwood
Author: Gwenda Bond
Summary: [from GoodReads]
On Roanoke Island, the legend of the 114 people who mysteriously vanished from the Lost Colony hundreds of years ago is just an outdoor drama for the tourists, a story people tell. But when the island faces the sudden disappearance of 114 people now, an unlikely pair of 17-year-olds may be the only hope of bringing them back.
Miranda, a misfit girl from the island’s most infamous family, and Phillips, an exiled teen criminal who hears the voices of the dead, must dodge everyone from federal agents to long-dead alchemists as they work to uncover the secrets of the new Lost Colony. The one thing they can’t dodge is each other.
Bucket List Entry: Visit the Roanoke tree
Why: I love to travel and I love history. Why not combine the two and go see the Roanoke tree? For one thing, I don’t know the history behind it very well, and often big historical even sites have visitors’ centers or at least plaques to tell you what happened. But also, I love a real life unsolvable mystery. I know I don’t have a chance of solving it, but just to be able to see where it happened – where so many people disappeared would be awesome, don’t you think? These kinds of places always inspire my imagination!
