Are you behind on your series reading? Want to get caught up in the new year? Then the Seriously Series Reading Challenge hosted by Amanda and Kelly is for you!

I can’t wait to get caught up on my series reading for this one, especially since I’ll be able to combine it with Kristilyn‘s and my 2013 Book Bingo Challenge. I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to follow through with – my list of series to catch up on is seriously LONG guys. But I’m going to try!

How It Works

To allow for the greatest level of flexibility, we’ve separated series into three categories: series started before 2013, series started in 2013, and series rereads. Series started before 2013 are defined as series that you have started reading before Jan. 2013 and that you still have unread books to get current in (or finish) the series. Series started in 2013 are defined as any series that you start reading between Jan. and Dec. 2013, and the second book in the series must be published before December 2013. A series reread is defined as books that are part of a series that were read before Jan. 2013 and that are reread between Jan. 2013 and Dec. 2013. A series reread does NOT have to include the full series.

For each category, there are different levels of seriousness about series that you can choose. Semi-serious is reading 1 to 6 series, seriously serious is reading 7 to 12 series, super seriously serious is reading 13 to 18 series, and seriously spectacular series star is reading more than 18 series. What this ends up looking like is this:

series started before 2013 series started in 2013 series rereads
Semi-Serious 1-6 series 1-6 1-6
Seriously Serious 7-12 7-12 7-12
Super Seriously Serious 13-18 13-18 13-18
Seriously Spectacular Series Star 18+ 18+ 18+

You choose which categories you want to attempt and which level to shoot for. Reading novellas and short stories from a series does count here. [From the sign up page on Reading the Paranormal]

I’ve decided to sign up for:

  • NEW SERIES (series’ started after 1/1/13): Seriously Serious (7-12)
  • OLD SERIES (series’ started before 1/1/13): Super Seriously Serious (13-18) I’m hoping on the high end of this one – I’ve got a TON listed that I only need 1 more to finish!
  • REREAD SERIES (series’ I’ve read before and want to read again): Seriously Serious (7-12) – I’m counting some series’ in both “Rereads” and “Old” because it has been long enough that I need to reread the first few before continuing.

For my purposes, since I get most of my books from the library anyway, a series won’t be complete until I have actually read ALL books published by 12/2013. That said, books I own should be given priority (I say should because I know me, and I know I mostly pick library books over owned un-read books. The library books have a due date!). I am also choosing to count ALL short stories in a series (I tend to skip these). And finally, series with only one book remaining also should be given priority. But I’m not good at following “should” so we’ll see.

Series’ I’m planning on finishing (Titles left TBR in parentheses):

Seriously Series Old Series’

  • The Heist Society (Perfect Scoundrels)
  • Society of Steam (Power Under Pressure)
  • The Ghost and the Goth (Body and Soul)
  • Curse Workers (Black Heart)
  • Austenland (Midnight in Austenland)
  • Starcrossed (Dreamless)
  • Winterhaven (Mirage, Eternal?)
  • Fairytale Retellings – Jackson Pearce (Fathomless, Cold Spell)
  • Throne of Glass (The Assassin and the Pirate Lord, The Assassin and the Desert, The Assassin and the Underworld, The Assassin and the Empire)
  • Maze Runner (Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, The Kill Order)
  • Goddess Test (Goddess Hunt, Goddess Legacy, Goddess Inheritance)
  • Elder Races (Storm’s Heart?, Serpent’s Kiss, True Colors, Oracle’s Moon, Lord’s Fall, Natural Evil, Devil’s Gate, Hunter’s Season, Lord’s Fall)
  • Charley Davidson (For I Have Sinned, Second Grave on the Left, Third Grave Dead Ahead, Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet)
  • Rogue Agent (Witches Incorporated, Wizard Squared, Wizard Undercover)
  • Pendragon (Pilgrims of Rayne, Raven Rise, Soldiers of Halla)
  • Mistborn (Well of Ascension, Hero of Ages, Alloy of Law)
  • Iron Druid (Tricked, Trapped)
  • Talent Chronicles (Impulse Control, Heroes ’til Curfew, Heroes Under Siege)
  • Iron Fey (Iron Legends)
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events (I have no clue where I stopped, but I now own all of them, so I’ll be rereading AND finishing this series)

Seriously Series New Series’

Some of the series are really long, so I’m allowing myself to merely start – If I get 2-4 books in, I’ll be happy.

  • Inside (Inside Out, Outside In)
  • Seven Realms (The Demon King, The Exiled Queen, The Gray Wolf Throne, The Crimson Crown)
  • The Morganville Vampires (Glass Houses, The Dead Girls’ Dance, Midnight Alley, Feast of Fools)
  • The Paranormals (Jenny Pox, Tommy Nightmare, Alexander Death, Jenny Plague-Bringer)
  • Experiment in Terror (Darkhouse, Red Fox, Dead Sky Morning)
  • Black Dagger Brotherhood (Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened)
  • Sabina Kane (Red-Headed Stepchild, Mage in Black, Green-Eyed Demon, Silver-Tongued Devil, Blue-Blooded Vamp)
  • Night Huntress? (Halfway to the Grave, One Foot in the Grave, At Grave’s End, Destined for an Early Grave)

Seriously Series ReReads

  • Harry Potter (All 7)
  • Lord of the Rings (Including The Hobbit)
  • Percy Jackson (Both original and the Heroes of Olympus series)
  • Uglies (All 4)
  • Seven Kingdoms (aka Graceling series)
  • Rogue Agent (Accidental Sorceror)
  • Pendragon (books 1-9, maybe)
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events (The whole series – some will be rereads, and some will be new)

Aaaaaaaand, holy CRAP that’s a lot of books! I don’t imagine I’ll finish them all (in fact, I probably won’t FINISH many series) but as long as I make progress on all of them, I’ll be happy!
