Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and Amanda @ On a Book Bender shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week. Behind the Desk
(My life behind the scenes)

This week has been FULL of ups and downs.

  • Monday I took the GRE. I only did so-so on the math, but I did fan-F***ING-tastic on the English, so I’m hoping that balances out.
  • Tuesday a very close friend of the family died. I’ve been good friends with his grandchildren for going on 8 years now, enough that I always called him Grandpa. Deaths are always very sad, of course, but this one was even sadder for being so sudden – just a few days before his stroke I saw him at church and we were laughing and joking as always. He will most definitely be missed.
  • Friday I finished basic training for my new job (only a few technical things to sort out left) so I can officially begin this week! YAY!
  • Saturday at the chocolate store was completely and utterly awful. Four large corporate orders came in on rush, my boss was in a terrible mood (and passing it along) and therefore refused to help with customers, and none of the machines were behaving right, so I had to make DOUBLE everything just to be sure I got enough that was actually sell-able. THREE MORE DAYS (if I could do math, I’d probably be counting the hours).
  • Nanowrimo starts this week! I was too busy with real life to prep the blog in time, so we’ll see how long I last before giving up (on the writing, not the blog.) If you would like to join me, track my progress, or yell at me for falling behind you can find my profile here. Now if only I had a better idea of what story I was writing…

GoodReaders’ Digest
(Books I’ve read in the past week and books I plan to read next. Also includes stats for the Unbreaking the Shelves Challenge)

I went through my “Read” shelf this week and added a TON of sequels that I should have already had on my “series completion” list. So basically, this week is going to look like EPIC FAIL but I figure they were technically on that list already, right? I just didn’t know it.
Read:
  • Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
  • Storm by Brigid Kemmerer
  • Elemental by Brigid Kemmerer

Currently Reading:

  • Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett (still)
  • Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel

Unbreaking the Shelves stats:

Get my “Embarrassed I haven’t read yet” shelf under 45.

  • Beginning total: 65
  • As of 10/28: 59 (WOOOT! Under 60!)

Keep my to-read-now list as close to 250 as possible. Expert level: bring it down to 235.

  • Beginning total: 253
  • As of 10/28: 265

Added:

Too many to list. Plus I’m lazy, and they’re all sequels to something I’ve already talked about.

Read 15 books off of my Series Completion list

Series Completion
4/15

EXPERT LEVEL: Read a total of 57 books from the TBR list (overshooting my original GR year goal by 25)

Total Books
17/57

Congrats on the GRE! I’m sure you passed!! I take my licensing exam (for social work) on Tuesday and I’m feeling wicked freaked.

I would love to work in a chocolate store, but by the sounds of it, not your store! I hope things get better soon!

I am seriously loving the one-sentence review idea for my backlogs…

    • Anne says:

Good luck on your exam! I’ll keep everything crossed for you!

You’re welcome to borrow it :) I just can’t handle having 20 reviews piling up waiting for me. I had to do SOMETHING to get them out there!

  2. Congrats (again) on completing the GRE! That sucker is no joke.

Also: THANK YOU for the chocolates. The box of individual chocolates is already gone. They were DELICIOUS. :) I keep eyeing the “Amanda is Awesome” one and not wanting to eat it. Because…would I no longer be awesome then? o.O

    • Anne says:

Of course you would still be awesome! You’ll just have internalized the awesome, and therefore you’ll be outputting MORE awesome 😛 I’m glad you enjoyed them. I’m guessing you had no trouble guessing? (The only non-obvious ones WERE alcohol based, so I suppose you probably had no trouble at all 😛 )

  3. Yay for the GRE! I bet you did great! And sorry for the loss of your friend — that’s never easy. *hugs*

That must be nice to be finished at the chocolate store! (You must be by now, right?) Honestly, a job that drags you down so much isn’t worth it!

Yay for NaNo! I’m going to add you as a buddy right now! I’m so hazy on what I’m writing, so we’ll see!
