I’m back!

Why hello there! Long time no see, yes? While I hated to take the break, I am so glad I did. I needed the time to really think about what I wanted from my blog, and now that I have, I feel sooo much better about where I hope it is going.

One thing I realized, while thinking about whether to even continue blogging, was that I’m not ready to give this up – any of it, including the reviews. So, once I decided that, I began thinking about why I ended up in this major reading/blogging slump, and how I could avoid it happening again. In the process, I have come up with a plan to completely revamp the blog – hopefully a new design, new types of posting, and a new schedule for when things post.

The big thing I realized was that it was more than just a slump for me. I felt like I was no good at it, that I wasn’t meant to be a blogger. That’s not a slump, that is freakin’ burnt out on blogging. When I first started blogging I made it a goal to review ALL the things! With the way I read, that sometimes meant 7+ reviews a week (just this week alone, I’ve finished four books in 2 days). YIKES! I never actually did that many, so I would get behind and then hate myself for being behind and then stop reading so I wouldn’t get more behind and end up in a HUGE slump. I’m amazed I kept trying as long as I did!

So, in order to make this work again, I’ve decided I don’t have to review every book I read (Shocker, I know!) Instead each week I’ll do an In My Mailbox type post with the books I’d like to read. Then, at the end of the week, I’ll pick the read I have the most to say about and review that, and then do a weekly wrap up post with 1-2 sentences on the rest of the new reads. Of course, if there are any you’d like to have a more extensive review on, I’d be glad to oblige – just leave me a comment, and I’ll take that into consideration when choosing what to review for that week. Some weeks, I may even do extra reviews, if I can’t choose one book, or if I have a comment requesting a different one than I’d choose on my own.

Another thing I’d like to do more of with this revamp, is participate in memes. They seem to be one of the best ways to interact with the community, and that’s what I’ve loved most all along. For now, I’ll be participating in In My Mailbox, and occasionally Top Ten Tuesday (Tuesdays are an insanely busy day for me, so I may not always have time to get the post up before it’s over). The eventual goal is to have two memes I participate in regularly, so I’ll happily take suggestions of any that you think are really great. In addition, I hope to continue Media Monday – a feature I started just before the hiatus that allows me to talk about some of the other formats I’m obsessed with, including music, TV and movies.

And finally, I will no longer be actively seeking out ARC’s and review copies. If anyone approaches me with a specific request, I’ll gladly do what I can to see that it is met. But I have an amazing local library that can get me just about any book I want within a matter of days. The very few that it can’t, well, I have a job – if I’m that desperate, I can buy a copy. I’ll leave the review copies for those who don’t have that kind of resource. (As a note – I will still be participating in the occasional blog tour through Teen Book Scene.)

So, that’s everything, at least for now. I’m so excited to see where this goes! Keep an eye out later today for an IMM post to start the whole thing off, and in the meantime, Happy Reading!

Glad to hear that your break worked out! Trying to review every single book read is a huge goal that I never managed to meet either. Now I only review my ARCs, review copies, and books that had some sort of impact on me. Welcome back!
