Media Monday: Fall Television

6 COMMENTS • This post is filed under: Media Monday

It’s that time of year again! Time to scour the TV listings for new shows to watch and eye candy to drool over. As I’m still pretty far behind on all of the shows either from before I started watching TV regularly or that are on cable so I have to wait for DVDs (like Buffy, Smallville, Supernatural etc.) I’ve narrowed it down to three different series to try. [Click on the images to be taken to the imdb page for the respective shows.]

Anyone had a chance to watch the pilot of this yet? It’s available for free on Hulu, but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. It looks a lot like an attempt at a Hunger Games television show. Except not really. I’ll admit I don’t know much. But it looks cool and I’m really looking forward to trying it! (Pilot officially airs 9/17)

As a devout fan of the BBC’s Sherlock, I’m a little worried about this one. It has the potential to be great. It has the potential to be epic fail. And we all know what making Watson a woman is going to mean, which I’m not sure I’m entirely on-board with. So, I’ll be giving this one a try, but I’m perfectly willing to call it quits after a few episodes if I have to. (Pilot airs 9/27)

Beauty and the Beast

Dear CW. DON’T screw this up. Beauty and the Beast is my absolute favorite fairytale of all time, and if you eff this up I will cry. So no pressure or anything. Love, Me.

Sadly, as I do not have cable I will be catching this whenever I can online. (Pilot airs 10/11)

Returning faves

Once Season 2

And of course we have all of our returning faves that I couldn’t live without. In no particular order, I plan to keep up with Once Upon a Time, Castle, Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who, and Merlin.

What shows, new or old, are you looking forward to this fall?

  1. Yes! The Big Bang Theory! I love that show. I’m also very curious about Elementary. I have a thing for one hour crime dramas with quirky characters. But I also have a tendency not to be very good about getting in front of the TV at a specific time, and then I forget I could probably watch the episode online. So I really only have one day a week I ever catch most of the TV shows, and that’s whenever I visit the boyfriend. lol. :)

I’m actually not a crime drama kind of person – I like the BIG STORY (like series long arc) kind of TV shows, and crime dramas don’t tend to do that as much. But I AM a big Sherlock Holmes person, so I’m curious at least 😛

I hardly ever watch TV when it’s on either, but I usually remember sort of halfway through a week to find stuff online. Sometimes I’ll get a few weeks behind, though, and then I start to get myself in trouble (I’m STILL behind on Castle! I just never went and found the last couple episodes…)

  2. I’m far behind on a few things, too … I *just* started watching Supernatural and LOVE it! Though, I’m only on Season 2, so I have lots of catching up to do! AND I want to watch Buffy & maybe start Dr. Who AND Battlestar Galactica. SO MANY TV SHOWS!

As for new shows, I did catch Revolution and really liked it! I think it has great potential. I also think Beauty and the Beast looks like it should be good. I love ANY remake of that show! I’m really leery about Elementary, though … I love Sherlock and the Sherlock Holmes movies, so I’m not sure another show is necessary (and can anyone really fill the shoes of Benedict Cumberbatch?).

As far as OLD shows go, I’m so sad that some of my favourites have finished — Chuck and House, specifically — and some are finishing — Weeds and Gossip Girl. BUT there are still some great shows that hubs and I love to catch.

MY shows are: Glee, Parenthood, Gossip Girl, Modern Family, Once Upon a Time, Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23, American Horror Story, Dexter, and The Office.

The shows hubs and I BOTH enjoy: Touch, Two and a Half Men, The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory, Person of Interest, Suburgatory, Raising Hope, Mike & Molly, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Revenge, and Homeland.

I’m also curious about 666 Park Avenue … Oh, and I’m watching The Mob Doctor right now and I don’t think it’ll last. It’s good, but not great.

Geesh, after rereading this I wonder how I have time for READING?!?!

Anyway … I LOVE FALL TV! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on some of the new shows. :)

AHHHHHH! I’m like halfway through season 4 of Supernatural, but I quit that one about a year ago (They were ruining Sam, and I didn’t appreciate it. I’ve been told they redeem him, so I will probably go back someday.) Also, YOU MUST WATCH DOCTOR WHO. Everyone should. Get on that! lol

I’m a little curious about 666 Park Avenue, BUT it has the potential to be really soap opera-y, which I’m not all that into. I’ll probably wait until some reviews go out and see what they say on that one.

  3. I’m like you – watching most of my shows on DVD or downloaded. We didn’t have cable for a few years and even now, only basic. But I actually prefer watching TV shows on DVD because you can blow through 3-4 episodes in one night if you want! It’s awesome, especially since so many episodes end in cliff hangers. Any show the hubs and I do watch now as they are aired we find extremely frustrating! Commercials? Cliff hangers? No thank you! And fast forwarding through PVR’d episodes commercial’s is so not the same as watching it on DVD.

The only new show I started watching last year, which I can’t wait for it to start up again, is Revenge! I also tape Suburgatory which I enjoy when I just want 20 minutes of a fun show to watch.

The shows hubs and I are catching up on on DVD are: Breaking Bad, Community, Arrested Development, True Blood, Deadwood and Six Feet Under. Phew!

The shows I’m catching up on are United States of Tara, The L Word, Grey’s Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, Nurse Jackie, One Tree Hill…and there are so many I never watched but still want to! Like Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars…ahh WHERE IS THE TIME?!? Lol.

I definitely want to check out Beauty and the Beast. And I don’t watch BBT religiously, but I love that one too!
